Role description – Agriculture Extension Officer

This is an exciting career opportunity for an Agriculture Extension Officer to contribute to a range of extension activities that enhance the productivity, profitability and sustainability of farmers across North-West Victoria.

Working within the Extension team and reporting to Senior Manager – Extension & Communications, the ideal candidate for this role will have experience in agriculture, event management, project management, communications or related disciplines.

Birchip Cropping Group Inc. (BCG) is a leader in applied grains research. Based in the heart of the Wimmera Mallee and North Central farming regions, BCG was established in 1992 by a group of farmers determined to have ongoing access to locally relevant grains research. Qualifications, experience and personal attributes 

Formal qualifications in agriculture, project management, event management or related disciplines desirable. Transferable skills will be acknowledged. 

This role will involve a high level of attention to detail and would ideally be suited to an individual with interest in communicating agricultural research and regularly engaging with stakeholders. 

Tasks & responsibilities 

  • Within the BCG Extension team this role will involve coordination, identification, creation, presentation, distribution and delivery of BCG extension outputs.  
  • Working with the BCG Research team to communicate project and research findings in accordance with contract milestones using innovative thinking that will engage farmers and industry.  
  • Work with the BCG team to assist with the delivery of the Young Farmer Network. 
  • Within the BCG Extension team this role will involve supporting the development of content for various BCG publications. 
  • Regular and timely contribution to BCG’s communications that promote and support BCG’s events and extension activities.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of BCG photo and content libraries, email signatures, signage, and corporate branding. 
  • Maximise promotion of BCG activities through effective engagement with appropriate and targeted communication activities.
