About BCG

Birchip Cropping Group (BCG) is a nationally recognised, not-for-profit organisation leading independent, applied grains research and extension. Established in 1992 by local farmers, BCG continues to deliver high-quality science-based research that improves the prosperity of broadacre farmers across the Wimmera, Mallee and North Central regions – and beyond.

What’s in it for you?

  • Work in a dynamic, professional environment with one of Australia’s leading farmer-driven research organisations

  • Build skills in trial design, management, and extension while contributing to real-world solutions for growers

  • Be part of a supportive team that values learning, collaboration, and innovation

  • Connect directly with farmers, researchers, and industry while building your professional network

  • Live and work in  Birchip: a happy, vibrant, and progressive community, offering many social, sport and recreation opportunities, boasting outstanding sporting facilities and water-based activities at Tchum lake which is located 7kms from town. If you’re interested in music and the Arts, Birchip is host to the annual Mali Heart festival, various visiting cultural arts performances and a range of regular and varied music events throughout the year.

What you’ll bring

  • A degree in agriculture or a related discipline

  • An understanding of grain growing and mixed farming systems (or a willingness to learn quickly)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills – you enjoy working with people as much as working in the paddock

  • Attention to detail, a curious mindset, and a drive to see research translated into practical outcomes

  • A collaborative attitude and enthusiasm for working in a team environment

  • A manual drivers license

What you’ll be doing

  • Assisting with planning, delivery, and reporting of research trials

  • Supporting in-paddock operations – including trial site preparation, management and harvest

  • Contributing to research publications, reports, and extension activities

  • Presenting and sharing research findings with farmers and industry at events and field days

  • Helping ensure BCG research continues to meet the needs of members and the broader farming community
