Aim: To compare the performance of existing and emerging wheat varieties in the Wimmera.

Location: Nhill
Sowing date: 16 May 2016
Starting soil N (0-70cm):   101kg N/ha
Previous crop type:   2015 – wheat
Fertiliser:

16 May 50kg/ha Granulock Sup Z + Impact

22 June 80kg/ha urea

20 July 100kg/ha urea

GSR:     339mm (recorded at Nhill aerodrome)
Harvest date: 24 December 2016

Nhill wheat variety trial

  • Yitpi, Cutlass, DS Pascal, Trojan, Cosmick and Scout were the highest yielding varieites.
  • Screenings were all below five per cent.
  • Frost in mid-October caused yield loss in some varieties, most notably the early to mid maturing lines.
