BCG is pleased to welcome Demi Taylor to the team as a Project Manager in Extension.

What is your background?

I joined BCG as a graduate having completed a Bachelor of Agricultural Science and an Associate Degree in Communications from Charles Sturt University. I lived and studied in Wagga Wagga for the past five years, and prior to that I grew up on a broadacre cropping and sheep farm in a small place called Taylorville in South Australia (just a quick trip across the ferry, 10km north of Waikerie!). I also have experience working in the agricultural, horticultural, and retail industries.

What is your role at BCG and what will you be doing?

I will join the team as a Project Manager in Extension. In that role, I will be supporting the team with the delivery of extension and communication materials to showcase the highly credible research that BCG produces, and to get that information across to growers throughout the BCG footprint (and beyond).

What about the role interested you in applying?

Whilst nearing the end of my degree, I was searching for a graduate extension position when I came across the job advertised with BCG, of which was a perfect fit for the career pathway I was hoping to pursue. I was particularly excited about the broadacre cropping focus coming from a cropping farm in the Mallee myself.

I heard nothing but positive remarks about BCG and the Birchip community when meeting local legend, Bill Lee, at an AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship workshop in 2022, and when I travelled from Wagga for our interviews I instantly fell in love with the little township (and I certainly wasn’t short of a ‘hello’ when walking past a stranger in the street).

The role itself is exciting as it is diverse and allows me to get involved in the extension, communications, and event coordination aspects of BCG. I also love the notion of ‘shared solutions’ and feel it encompasses the entire organisation from the communication that occurs within the BCG team, to the way the research is based around growers needs.

What are your interests outside work?

Outside of work I absolutely love being active and enjoy netball, triathlons, horse-riding, swimming, cycling and occasionally a bit of golf (with a 50% chance of an air swing each shot). I also love taking photos, am a chronic op-shopper, and absolutely love any animal, having cared for everything from orphan lambs and joeys, rats, blue-tongues… you name it. My love for animals led me to study Veterinary Science at Charles Sturt Uni, but I may have broken the record for quickest drop-out as I soon discovered dissections weren’t for me!

But without a doubt my biggest love is my dog, Digger. Home is my happy place, and there’s nothing I love more than getting back on the farm, seeing my family, and running my dogs on the quad at sunset (best sunsets in Aus, but I’m bias).

What are you looking forward to whilst working at BCG?

I am looking forward to working with a great team of people and further developing my knowledge of the intricacies of cropping in a low to medium rainfall environment. I’m particularly excited to be involved in the extension team and assist in the delivery of materials and events that aim to develop growers’ knowledge and help to increase on-farm productivity and sustainability.
