BCG is pleased to welcome Grace Hosking to the team as Project Manager of the Victoria Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub, North West Broadacre Node.
What is your background?
I grew up on a broadacre cropping and livestock farm just south of Quambatook in Victoria’s Mallee. Together with my parents, grandparents and three sisters, we grow wheat, barley, oats, canola and a number of legumes for hay and grain production. We also breed merino ewes and run a small herd of cattle. I attended school locally at Boort District P-12 School before moving to Melbourne to study a Bachelor of Agriculture, majoring in Economics at The University of Melbourne.
What is your role at BCG and what will you be doing?
I will be joining the team as Project Manager of the Victoria Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub, North West Broadacre Node. My role will involve engaging with industry and other stakeholders, to identify gaps in our preparedness for future drought and drive on the ground outcomes for our farmers and community.
What about the role interested you in applying?
Hailing from a family farm, I can empathise with the huge financial, physical and most significantly, emotional toll drought can have on farming families, businesses and our small rural communities. As such, I feel motivated to help our farming community be better informed, better prepared and more profitable in the face of future droughts. The Drought Hub provides a valuable opportunity for us to build upon the skills and capabilities that currently exist within our community whilst also bringing new innovation to the region, to ultimately enhance our resilience to future drought.
What are your interests outside work?
Outside of work I enjoy being involved in the local football, netball and hockey club, cooking, walking our dog Mae, working on the farm and watching a good Mallee sunset. When the headers stop rolling in summer, I also love an afternoon ski at Lake Meran.
What are you looking forward to whilst working at BCG?
I am looking forward to engaging with our members and stakeholders, whilst helping to share the important research BCG conducts for the industry.
