We welcome Simon Delles to the team for the next six months as an agronomy intern. He hails from the north-east of France.
What is your background?
I come from a farming family and work on a farm in France specialising in seed production, particularly clover. I’ve just finished my first year of a Master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering at the Institute Agro of Montpellier.
What is your role at BCG and what will you be doing?
I’m here to learn about all the jobs there are in a research team. My role varies but mostly I assist the team with the different trials.
Why BCG?
BCG works on numerous subjects: new varieties, weed management, farming systems. This diversity of subjects is an opportunity for me to acquire new skills in agronomy.
How did you learn about BCG?
I discovered BCG via social media. My teacher and I were able to contact John Ferrier via twitter and the rest is history.
What are your interests outside work?
I enjoy running and hiking. This internship in Australia is an opportunity for me to discover the nature and culture of your beautiful country.
What are you looking forward to whilst working at BCG?
I’m looking forward to learning new things in agronomy, the agriculture in Australia and the agriculture of our future.
What do you hope to do with what you have learnt when you get home?
First, a perfect level in English!
Secondly, the knowledge I learn will be very useful when I complete my studies and get a job. I want to work in the field of agronomy consulting. This open-mindedness about the agriculture of another country, on the other side of the world, is really interesting for this type of job.
