BCG are thrilled to welcome Amy McEachern to the team!

What is your background?

I grew up on a beef/sheep farm at Grassmere near Warrnambool, where I developed a passion for agriculture and food production. I have recently completed a Bachelor of Science and honours at the Australian National University. My honours project focused on examining the effects of climate change on several wheat lines, which aimed to identify cultivars associated with high yield and resilience in projected climate scenarios. This project enhanced my passion for Australian agriculture and has made me want to be involved in the industry anyway I can.

What is your role at BCG and what will you be doing?

My role as Research Agronomist  involves assisting with the delivery of several research projects, where I will help plan, prepare, monitor, and report on the projects throughout the year. A key part of my role will be engaging with growers and agronomists across the Wimmera Mallee region to ensure the projects are delivering high quality research solutions to growers. Throughout the year, I will also contribute to project reporting and writing scientific reports.

What about the role interested you in applying?

I really appreciate how the research is directly applied, and working with growers to enhance farm management practices and boost profitability. I also saw this position as an excellent opportunity to build on my degree and deepen my knowledge of crop agronomy.

What are your interests outside work?

I enjoy playing netball and have recently joined the Birchip football and netball club. I also enjoy going for a swim in the local pool and running around the lake!

What are you looking forward to whilst working at BCG?

I’m excited to collaborate with the BCG team to generate quality research that will benefit farmers in the area. I’m also keen to connect with and work alongside local agronomists and growers.
