Tell us a bit about your background?

I am from Ballarat; however, the family farm is in the Beaufort-Streatham area. I studied a Bachelor of Agriculture at the University of Melbourne with a major in Plant and Soil Science, graduating in December 2018. I worked summers from 2015-2017 at Broadbent Bulk Storage facility in the weighbridge and sample stand. I also worked summers between 2016-2019 with Botanical Resources Australia, managing one of their harvest crews for the pyrethrum harvest around Ballarat. In the first half of this year, I worked part time as a research agronomist with PastureWise. I was also helping dad out on the farm extensively, where he manages a mixed broadacre cropping and livestock farm.

What is your role at BCG and what will you be doing?

I am an extension officer with BCG, where I will be organising and promoting a range of events, leading to on-farm practice change and adoption by building the knowledge and skills of farmers and their advisors. I’m very interested in understanding how farmers make decisions in the context of their whole-farm operation and how we can design extension activities that provide information and develop skills to support these decisions.

What are your interests outside work?

Outside of work I am really interested in performing arts, especially musicals. I also really enjoy reading and am looking forward to joining the Birchip book club.

Where do you live now?

I have now moved to Birchip, where I am really looking forward to meeting more people and getting involved in the community.

Are you looking forward to anything in particular during your time at BCG?

I am very excited to gain extension experience and to grow into a role that seems like it will be a really good fit for me.
