Last Friday, BCG CEO Fiona Best attended the graduation ceremony at Longerenong College to present the BCG Rising Star Award.
The 2025 award was presented to Amelia Lymer. It was a full circle moment, as Amelia completed work experience with BCG during sowing last year in June. Working in the lab in one of the most demanding times of the season, Amelia made a strong impression.
BCG Lab Manager Steve Nottle reflected on her contribution, describing Amelia as “task-oriented and efficient. She quickly became a valued member of the team during one of our busiest periods.”
Amelia said her time at BCG confirmed her passion for agriculture. “I absolutely loved it. Seeing the process from seed packing through to sowing was really rewarding.”
Originally from Geelong, Amelia has always been drawn to agriculture. “I never wanted to work in an office. I loved biology and environmental studies at school, which led me down an agricultural pathway,” she said. While she initially considered becoming an agronomist, her interest in business management led her to study at Longerenong and ultimately pursue a role with Warakirri Cropping.
Amelia’s studies at Longerenong College were extensive. She completed diplomas in agribusiness management and applied agronomy, along with certificates in agriculture, wool classing, and leadership and management.
She has now accepted a graduate farm manager role with Warakirri Cropping based in Donald. Amelia is enjoying the balance of hands on and business responsibilities. “I’ve been involved in practical work like spreading and spraying, but also gained a strong understanding of the business side of farming. It’s been a great opportunity to understand how a farm really operates.”
BCG is committed to strengthening the prosperity of Australian farmers and their communities. By supporting the Rising Star Award, BCG continues to invest in and foster the next generation of passionate, capable young people like Amelia.
