Last year, I joined BCG in October as their Communications Officer, filling in for Jess while she is on maternity leave. I’m excited to share the incredible research BCG is delivering, as well as the stories and experiences of farmers across our region (I think they’re pretty remarkable).
What is your background?
I grew up on a family farm in Boigbeat, where my family live and work. After finishing school, I completed a Bachelor of Design at the University of Melbourne. Since then, I’ve travelled and worked in communications roles with Rural Inspire and North Central LLEN.
Where have you lived previously, and where are you based while working with BCG?
I lived in Melbourne while completing university, and also spent a short time in Canada, living and working in Lake Louise. Now, I’d now like to consider myself a Birchip local!
What made you apply for this role?
I see an opportunity for social media to play a bigger role in agriculture. I’m keen to showcase the BCG team, the work they do, and as well as farmers in our region. We’re just about to launch a BCG sowing series, I’m excited to jump on the seeder with local growers and talk about their upcoming program and what decisions they’re making this season.
I’m also passionate about regional communities and seeing them thrive, and I’m excited to be part of an organisation that shares that commitment. I’ve always had strong connections with people at BCG and have admired the organisation’s culture and achievements. Some of those connections go way back, Fiona was my English teacher in High School, it really does feel like a small world, in the best way!
Do you have a farming background, or what inspired your move into the agricultural industry?
I grew up on the family farm and my parents and two brothers are all involved in running the business. I’m looking forward to learning more and being able to have more informed conversations about farming, both professionally and with my family.
Agriculture is an important aspect of living in a rural community. Staying informed about what is happening on the ground and understanding the issues and innovations that matter to local farmers is both important and highly valuable.
What are your interests outside of work?
I’m passionate about rural communities, particularly supporting young people.
Over the past year, I’ve really enjoyed getting into videography and social media content creation, especially projects that celebrate small businesses and community life.
Like most people from rural towns, I love country sport. Netball, tennis, pickleball, basketball – I am not the most talented player but I enjoy the social aspect and keeping active!
