What is your background?

I’m from Melbourne. I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Agriculture at the University of Melbourne, majoring in Agricultural Economics. I’ve extended my degree and am doing it over four years, I’m currently in my third year. I don’t have a background in agriculture, but it’s something I’ve always found really interesting. Agriculture is so important, everyone has to eat! I love learning about where food comes from and getting to be a part of that process.

What is your role at BCG and what will you be doing?

I’m a harvest casual. I’m mainly based in lab helping with analysis, weighing and cleaning of grain. I’ve also had the chance to get out in the field and help with biomass cuts and slug assessments.

What about the role interested you in applying?

I’ve heard about BCG throughout my degree. BCG is well connected in the course and has a great reputation. It seemed like a great opportunity to expand my network, gain experience and meet new people.

What are your interests outside work?

Outside of work, I like getting out in nature. I love going on hiking and camping trips. I like rock climbing, trying different creative things and hanging out with my friends. I’ve recently started riding my bike places. I get to ride my bike to and from work here in Birchip.

What are you looking forward to whilst working at BCG?

I’m looking forward to seeing how everything operates in Birchip, it’s so different to what life is normally like for me. It’s been really cool seeing how the tight knit community really works together, especially during harvest to make sure everything runs smoothly. I’m also excited to say I contributed to BCG’s harvest this year.

What’s next for you?

I’m not really sure yet. I feel like BCG has opened my eyes up to the wide range of opportunities in agriculture. There are so many opportunities out there to explore!
